The relationship between the magnetotelluric tensor invariants and the phase tensor of Caldwell, Bibby and Brown

چکیده
In recent papers Caldwell, Bibby and Brown (2002, 2003) (hereafter referred to as CBB) have introduced a new and elegant method for analysing magnetotelluric (MT) data which can be applied directly to galvanically distorted data in a regional conductivity structure of any dimension. It is therefore more general and direct than previous methods (e.g. Bahr, 1988; Groom and Bailey, 1989; Smith, 1995) which involve a decomposition of the MT tensor based on the assumption that the regional conductivity structure is 2D. The procedure of CBB, on the other hand, is founded on their innovative definition of a real 2 × 2 ‘phase tensor’ which is independent of any real (galvanic) distortion that may be present (in fact it is identical for both the distorted and the regional data), and does not require any assumption about the dimensionality of the underlying regional conductivity.

New Improvement in Interpretation of Gravity Gradient Tensor Data Using Eigenvalues and Invariants: An Application to Blatchford Lake, Northern Canada
Recently, interpretation of causative sources using components of the gravity gradient tensor (GGT) has had a rapid progress. Assuming N as the structural index, components of the gravity vector and gravity gradient tensor have a homogeneity degree of -N and - (N+1), respectively. In this paper, it is shown that the eigenvalues, the first and the second rotational invariants of the GGT (I1 and ...
متن کاملOn the Exponent of Triple Tensor Product of p-Groups
The non-abelian tensor product of groups which has its origins in algebraic K-theory as well as inhomotopy theory, was introduced by Brown and Loday in 1987. Group theoretical aspects of non-abelian tensor products have been studied extensively. In particular, some studies focused on the relationship between the exponent of a group and exponent of its tensor square. On the other hand, com...
متن کاملA simple form of MT impedance tensor analysis to simplify its decomposition to remove the effects of near surface small-scale 3-D conductivity structures
Magnetotelluric (MT) is a natural electromagnetic (EM) technique which is used for geothermal, petroleum, geotechnical, groundwater and mineral exploration. MT is also routinely used for mapping of deep subsurface structures. In this method, the measured regional complex impedance tensor (Z) is substantially distorted by any topographical feature or small-scale near-surface, three-dimensional (...
متن کاملThree-dimensional Magnetotelluric Modeling of data from Northeast of Gorgan Plain
Magnetotelluric measurements have been conducted in the period range of 0.005-128 s along five parallel east-west directed profiles including 85 sites totally in the north-eastern part of Gorgan Plain, Golestan Province, North of Iran; with the aim of exploring iodine. Distortion and dimensionality analysis of data imply the existence of a north-south elongated two-dimensional model with some l...
متن کاملApplication of 2D inversion of magnetotelluric in exploration of hydrocarbon in south west of Iran
Since hydrocarbon sources have an important role in development of industry and technology, exploration of them has been lionized by human. The seismic reflection method is one of the most applicable investigative methods to identify the hydrocarbon reservoirs, but in some cases this method does not work well because of geology conditions and wave attenuation in depth. Thus, some exploration me...
